The middle of the 1st quarter is today...hard to believe! Because interims will be mailed home early next week, I did not pass them out today in class. When the interim comes in the mail, please sign it and send it to math class with your student.
Have a great weekend!

Capture-Recapture
Today we simulated catching tagged and untagged fish in a lake. We did not have enough time to finish our notes or get a sufficient amount of practice.
Due to project presentations scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, Sept 17th, we will finish our Capture-Recapture lesson on Monday, Sept 20th. PLEASE LOOK OVER YOUR CAPTURE-RECAPTURE NOTES OVER THE WEEKEND so that you are prepared to complete the lesson on Monday.

Chapter 2--Proportional Reasoning
I am pleased to announce that we are beginning a new chapter tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept 15th. In the orange textbook, it is Chapter 2.
I will print out the parent guide and send it home with each student, but an electronic version is available here as well.
Below are some "dinner table conversation questions":
--What is a ratio?
--What is a proportion?
--What are some everyday situations or circumstances where proportions could be used to solve a problem?
--What does "solve by using cross products" mean?
--What are 2 ways you can check your proportion to make sure that you have the correct answer?
--What is an "unknown"?
--What is "Capture/Recapture"?
--What is "tagging"?

Statistics Project!!!
Students were given their Statistics Project Outline today. We discussed the project at length. Please ask your student about the project. It is a nice opportunity for them to express themselves while doing mathematics at the same time!
The project is due, Friday, September 17th!
